It's warm with a little breeze, garden is untouched from yesterday but a few photos of what was unearthed yesterday and I turned the compost pile.
The grass I sprayed is showing discoloration, hard to see against the logs. The damage on the oxalis has spread but still not consistently dying. I sprayed the grass at the back of the north bed but that grass was turning brown before I sprayed so not a good example.
Tomato is still hanging in there, a bit sprawly but doing good. Might have to trim it again or find another support for it. Tomato is actually turning less green which is a sign it's aging/ripening. Much much too small so if it does color I'll just pull it and maybe save the seeds. Just realized dummy me totally forgot to put food around it! 😳
I measured the new bed and sure enough, roughly 2 x 4 foot bed. Nicely done! You can see all the tiny rocks (the white thing is actually a tag on the cage) and clumps that were left on the surface after the water settled yesterday. Small rocks aren't a big deal unless you're growing carrots or radishes they might get in the way. Perfectly good size bed for a couple of potatoes or another tomato or two. I also just realized that in the summer that bed will be getting a bit more shade as the sun moves higher the fences will be shading it as well as the jade. We shall see what happens. The pile of rocks and sticks on the right is what I dug out. Lump of asphalt, several chunks of cement, so this area was likely slated for parking or driveway or they just threw a bunch of dirt there. You can see a little of the plant I sprayed that is now wilting so at least that's working.
The compost pile sort of in the corner I looked at and thought, time for turning! The larger weeds in the back I left alone, surprisingly the soil was soft due to it not being dried out.
Just dug in and turned the dirt on top of the other rotting greens. Pulled out two weed stems that had seeds on them so as not to add more to the pile. Not exactly sure what I'm going to end up with but it won't be ready until late summer most likely.
Randomonium gardening! Have to remember to go feed the tomato tomorrow, or maybe later today.
