Garden science, pretty day and weeds.

I want the seeds in the south bed to sprout before the weeds around it get much bigger. I didn't wait for the vinegar to do it's thing so now have to either spray again which will get washed off the next time I water or wait a day to water after I spray.

All the little oxalis bastards are just happy as ever and I can't hoe it due to the seeds in there so definitely will have to spray again. Will do that tomorrow and hold off watering until after that.

Sprinkled more kitchen scraps on the pile and raked that through. Potatoes are still plugging along but am seriously doubting any good size potatoes will come from that unless I put potting soil on it as they grow. That hard soil is not conducive for potatoes or carrots I know. I loosened the surface before I watered that bed. Also might consider getting that coir/peatmoss mix next time to add in and see how that works.

The chunks of the bagged amend are just too big to do any good, they're all floating to the surface and aren't doing much good. Sigh. I will have to widen those holes as they grow to make room for potential potatoes for sure.

Oh yeah! The trees are starting to break out in leaf buds again! Definitely springtime around here and the tomato is getting good color just not good size.

See what a pretty blue sky there is (slightly lighter in person of course)? Another gorgeous day with light breeze and urrggh dry air.

Now on to science! I finally did the pH test on the soil and am pleased with the results!

I had to adjust the brightness, contrast and the shadows on that to get the green water to show up. I think the first test I did last year it was definitely green green not avocado green. This is definitely a good thing because it's closer to neutral. 6.5 is just find and average for our soil. So yay!

6.5 Slightly Acid

Last years results

For comparison, nitrogen is better this year along with the pH being lower. P and K are about the same if not a bit stronger, which is also good. Slowly but surely the nutrients are getting there. This is only after one year and hope to be able to stay here long enough for them to get even better.

So there you have it.. science and..a boat load of patience still is needed. Not my strong suit any more.
