The weather is holding steady still starting clear and warm, breezy so the temp is staying reasonable.
I have shifted my watering to late afternoon, almost didn't get it done yesterday so it was almost dark when I got out there which means only one blurry picture due to dim light, not going to bother. The other lady (Layla I think is what someone said her name is) watered and left the hose out.
But I decided to dig up the smaller potato plant because..I'm impatient and was worried about it being so small. Well I got a whopper of a potato and a smaller one plus two tiny ones good for replanting.
It's still not to late to replant them either so those will be going back in, just need to read up on whether planting in the same spot is good and of course, have to put in more fertilizer. The other bush I'll wait for a bit. From what I read, they need about 100 days of good weather, we've got that in spades for sure.
(haven't got around to finishing this until almost dark)
No watering today, totally forgot about it until it's too late. Oh well, will water in the morning and plant the tiny potato spuds then. The potato bed definitely needs more compost despite the bag I put in there. When I dug the plant out the soil was still damp and not at all dry of course. If you look at the plant you can see the other potatoes were forming right at the stem instead of spreading out, I think that has to do with the soil being a bit heavy but at least they grew right!?
The tomato is fading fast, the mites have not let up and you can see the branches most affected are just fading off. I might not be able to save the crop at this rate. I need that soil for the potatoes and maybe peppers. Once it's out of the ground and in the trash I'll make a decision on it.
I saw a recommendation that Celebrity is a good tomato that resists splitting and will have to see about getting one of those to replace it. But not in that bed due to possible nematode attraction despite the marigolds.
Decisions will be made and hopefully better crops to come.
