Not torrential but rain just the same

Happy Vernal Equinox! Rain happened overnight and is only overcast and occasional drizzle right now. I did get out yesterday to dump my scraps because it needed it now and not later when it would be raining. When I got to the garden I realized a few leaves of lettuce could be harvested. I definitely need more lettuce planted, and something more substantial than the Black Seeded Simpson.

The Indian Hawthorns are starting to bloom, I almost harvested some of the cilantro but I know that can get much bigger and I don't have a use for it right now. That's something that can go to seed and not be a problem because the seeds are useful too!

The peas are gaining speed for sure and there's color shoulders showing on one of the radishes!  Time to put more of those out as well.

I have realized that I don't plant a lot because I'm afraid of overcrowding and too much to actually use. I need to start not being afraid of planting too much because little bits here and there don't work. I could use another dozen lettuce plants, same with the radishes and if those turn out well I can put some carrots in. Not sure what's going to happen when the tomatoes are ready to plant. Going to have those all over the place! Then I have to consider where to plant peppers!

Peas, tomatoes and other veggies that produce a lot can be planted fewer, single use root crops; carrots, radishes, onions, garlic and lettuces, those need to be packed into a garden for better results on yield. It's all a learning process of trial and error.

Indian Hawthorn is starting to bloom, one of the standard bushes around the complex and elsewhere.  The flowers do have a fragrance and the bees love the flowers. Win win! The Jade bush is also blooming like mad so it's definitely Spring!

That reminds me of my fertilzing issues with the zucchini my first year, wondering if I should try again in the north bed after the potatoes are done. But then I'll likely have tomatoes in that bed as well. I am really tempted to just chuck three of the pellets, not like it's big money going in the trash, you have to learn to sacrifice some things. I haven't had to water them at all even with putting them outside in the sun for a while. I also left them on the porch last night by mistake but brought them in this morning. Going to be cold and cloudy so not really good for them to be outside at this point.

I just went out to check on things in the garden, the potatoes are looking rather religious: holey. Bees are buzzing in the bush and even with my eyesight not good I noticed some new sprouts coming up! They may well be radishes that have been moved around from rain and watering.

I think there was one or two others but very tiny, the green onions from seed are getting heftier as well but didn't get a picture of those.

The garlic clump i planted is sprouting just fine. Have no idea what I'm going to do with those, heckuva mess if I let them all grow like that. The tops make a good chive/green onion substitute though.

I'm seeing more videos on 'how to make a raised garden bed for under $50' or 'make a cheap raised garden bed'! Most of these involve using alternate resources for the actual walls/container. Not the amount of soil or additives you need. Because they already have that. The raised bed I have cost me the soil, netting and the mesh. So yeah... thanks to the donation of the actual frame.

It's sort of sunny right now, big puffy clouds are drifting overhead on the wind, we're due more rain than today so if I need to do anything in the garden, has to be done today. Already done. Lol!

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
