Did I say something about sunny? Not today.

May Grey has set in now, going to be overcast but no rain for a few days at least until the weekend. It kind of spatter drizzled briefly last night but not enough to really get anything wet due to the gusting winds. Cloud cover makes for less watering for me, maybe every other day or so for sure. Layla caught me at the patio and asked if I would water her plants because she's going to be gone for 2 weeks. That is actually perfect timing. She darted away before I could ask her if I could dig up her garden and put the gopher wire in so am wondering if it would be wrong for me to do it for her as a surprise.

First some pictures of pretty flowers this morning. The vines are blooming more but still thin on the branches. I love the two tone lavender colors on these and have always loved veining patterns you can see in flowers.

Last night after trying to fit in the edging and this morning after trying to level the soil some more. With that extra height I can add another three inches of soil for sure, maybe four and have a good depth for just about anything.

Everything looked just fine last night, the flowers are progressing on the cilantro and other than concern over the garlic all is well.

Layla's garden she is desperately trying to keep going. It's a lot of work to dig all that out and if I had a sudden soil drop I would add it to that. As good intended as I am that is a LOT of digging in hard soil and I have no amendment left to put in there. She has 'plants' in there but honestly it's not worth the effort on my part.

I had to hold the branch still to take a picture because the wind was gusting around and moving the plants too much. Corner shot of the tomato and lettuce just because I am stinking proud of everything I'm putting in that is continuing to thrive and grow.

Should be able to pick some more peas and then I noticed the garlic. What the heck happened?  The neck apparently got weak and it just flopped over. I decided to pull it because there was nothing else to do with it.

Cutworms got to it and possibly the soil just stayed too wet at the neck. It was doing so well too! I'll try garlic in the north bed in the fall and maybe have better luck with 'stiffer' soil over there. Depends on how soon I can get the raised bed soil because at this rate, unless someone has it for free it won't happen until next month.

I have a handful of potatoes that are sprouting which I can hope to plant there as well. Russets and golds mostly. I know that russets would prefer a bit more sandy soil but I've seen plenty of people planting in potting soil in those grow bags.  So, whatever, I'm sure they'll do fine no matter where I put them. As long as they're protected from the subterranean rodents.

I just can't get over how completely gorgeous this rose is. Completely covered in flowers and I still don't know the name. The reverse of the petals are a lighter shade than the face side so it gives a two tone effect. Flowers are loose and not a tight collection but also not truly double like an English rose. I will not stop trying to figure out what this is. I'll get some close up pictures tomorrow and send them off to the nursery to see what they can find out.

It's a pleasant day, nothing to do for another few hours but will think of something.
