Okay where was I?

Cleared a bit earlier today, did I mention I love this time of year? I'm going to go through the photos from the last two days and just pick them randomly of what I haven't used and do todays as well. And as I am doing lately, 'but first, flowers!'

This rose is Very fragrant! It is scenting up the entire apartment from just being in the kitchen. Rocky is not impressed and basically left them alone. There may be hope for having flowers in my home again! When you think of a rose fragrance, this one is it! It's not all pink and actually is more peach, still not sure it's a Tiffany since that is definitely pink blend.

Cilantro and mixed flowers. There is a hedge on my walk that is a combination of Hall's Honeysuckle, Morning Glory and further down Jasmine. It is going to smell glorious today! Already can smell the honeysuckle when I walk by and the Jasmine is just starting to bloom. The rose bushes are also exploding in front of that one house.

Oh to have a yard to grow all the roses and other flowers I love!

So I decided to move the mulch and leaf bucket from behind the Jade plant and dumped out the mulch. Unfortunately it was cloudy and didn't dry it out much. I stirred it up, pulled out the larger pieces of wood that would take years to break down and put it back in the bucket.

I just stirred up the leaves, digging my (gloved!) hand down and just pulling wet leaves at the bottom to the top, crushing some more and generally mixing it up. I then noticed the dirt is shuffled a little at that gopher hole. I can't remember whether it was me or not but it seemed like fresh movement. As I said before, good luck getting through my wire barrier!

So yesterday as I was waiting for the sun to come out and dry the mulch pile I watered the last tomato then looked at the south bed. Looked at the tomato and then at the lone tomato in the south bed and made a decision.

I decided to lift out the tomato and move it to make room for the other tomato. That only leaves one slot for a pepper but more room in the raised bed. I feel better and unsure at the same time.  Better because that last tomato isn't still in a small pot (which by the way all of them had roots that were starting to circle when I transplanted them) and now unsure about the sun exposure and room enough for the two tomatoes.

That picture was taken at noon and it was only just barely being hit by shade I think they got at least four hours of sun, but this time of year morning is usually cloudy but should improve later on. Reference photo of the raised bed. Onions are looking great and am still waffling about digging out that larger tomato and moving it more to the middle. Those two plants are going to be right on top of each other unfortunately.

Something else troubling is the damaged leaves on this pepper. There were holes in the leaves before but it's gotten worse now and I have no idea what's causing it. If it gets munched too badly I'll have to sacrifice them and still have plenty of peppers. Might do it anyway because I only have room for one in the south bed and two in the north bed. Or not in the south bed and put the other pair in the raised bed.

Side view of the cilantro flowers, totally adorable and interesting.  Then... bug of the day. Earwigs. Grrrr. Little bastards love rose flowers and chew the heck out of them.

I was able to knock that one onto the pavement and stepped on it. There was another one in another flower but it flung into the garden bed so couldn't get that one. Even the rose I cut had one in it!  That one went down the drain and is swimming somewhere no doubt. Will have to figure out how to trap them with newspaper or something.

So that gets the garden caught up for now. I didn't get out yesterday evening so now it's just business as usual and will see what happens this evening.
