Got to the garden today because I needed to pull the onions and just check on things. Gardeners are like that 'are you growing yet?' five minutes after you planted the seeds or seedlings.
Yay things are growing! Did I mention that I'm thrilled to have enough soil to top things off at the end of summer? Yes, I am indeed thrilled because at least four of those bags is enough to do that and maybe only need one bag to split between the other two beds.
Top picture is of the seedlings at the back of the west bed. I thought they were bell peppers but nope... I'm going to have cilantro coming out my ears again in a month. But that's okay, I still have seed and bought a bunch at the store today (It's May so all things to do with Mexican cooking is on sale). The bell peppers I think are in the front of that bed and the tomatillos are still growing. Hooboy. I am starting to wonder what kind of Oregano that is. I'm letting it go to flower because none of the sources online give me a good identification. Once it flowers I'll know for sure. It just doesn't smell like regular 'Greek' Oregano but maybe I'm used to processed long time on shelf Oregano and not fresh. I am really tempted to turn that west bed into a perennial herb garden. All I really need there is thyme, maybe basil, keep green onions there, already had chives, not doing that again, the other two ladies still have chives growing. Cilantro gets so big and it's an annual so that would go elsewhere. Need ot think about what else to put there and plan it for next spring.
I have celery seed! Not a perennial herb and not likely to grow but it would be an experiment. I've also got fennel seed, hmmmm. But why grow fennel when all I ever need is the seed occasionally. It grows wild in the canyons as well. Sage gets kind of big, sweet Marjoram would be a good addition. The other idea is to make that my onion bed or a flower bed or both. Bulbs... I miss having spring and summer bulbs to grow... dahlias and gladioli for that bed in the summer. They can both winter over without having to dig them or need chilling. Toss some crocus in there just for fun, will look at my options this fall.
