Temps will be increasing over the next few days until it hits the high 80's on the weekend. It's still foggy-ish in the early morning but by 10 am it's all retreated or burned off. The Jacaranda blooms are a beautiful vivid purple against the hazy blue sky.
Skies aren't quite that blue but still full on clear skies to the horizon in all directions I got out around noon to check the garden. Harvesting of the Romaine ensued.
Four heads remained (picture on the left is from two days ago) and when I saw the one at the back starting to make a stem, it was time to cut them off. I dropped two off at the table (which were quickly snapped up) and took the other two upstairs to be given to friends and family. Pictures from yesterday and today since I am keeping the two small pots of tomato seeds in the bed and covering them with the clear plastic container to keep them warm overnight. Still getting nippy down to the 60's so want to accelerate them germinating a bit.
Mulch is doing what it's supposed to do, keeping that bed nice and cool and moist. Watered it well yesterday and noticed that the little pepper seedlings that are being shaded by the coriander were a bit wilty. Not so today, all perky and upright. Dolores somehow acquired a potato plant. Looking better than anything I ever grew, can't wait to start more next season. Drat, forgot to check that discarded bag of russets out there....
Found this little stripey on the tomato the other day and promptly pinched it off and tossed it away. Another culprit of the holes in the leaves.
I had a moment of minor worry that I have trimmed too much off the plants and culled too many of the small fruit off but...I think I'm okay. They look thinned out but they honestly have plenty of flowers still developing so that is going to extend the harvest all the way to August and maybe September since we have a long growing season.
Hopefully the Thorburn's will get going soon.
