Since I put seeds down in the sunny bed had to get out and make sure they stayed damp. Got 'dry' pictures of the potatoes and the tomato is still going gangbusters.
First, the potatoes.
Only about an inch tall but at this point it will increase exponentially I hope.
Since the soil was still rather wet I didn't water them or the south bed. One of these days I'll set my alarm and get out there early enough to see if the sun is hitting that bed in the morning.
The cilantro is doing so good! It's loving the mild weather and shade! Might have to plan some salsa pretty soon!
Now the tomato I think I will be trimming and thinning tomorrow it is getting so overgrown I really have to consider either a bigger cage or adding on again on the sides.
Small tomatoes everywhere there were flowers and more flowers coming on.
And now on to the anomaly of the soil test. I decided to do it before I went to bed last night simply because I forgot to do it and the kitchen is right next to the living room where Jon watches tv and didn't want to interrupt. I only did the nutrient test and was going to get a sample for doing pH but forgot my little cup.
So the first one is nitrogen and that is supposed to be a pink/purple, second is phosphorous which is blue and the third is potassium, orange. The clear one is the pH. That was last night around 10pm
I just took pictures again, agitating to disperse the colorant a bit more.
You can see a definite difference in the color when it's properly dispersed. Now, I don't know which one would be more accurate but no matter what the nutrient level is lacking even after I had put in compost and fertilizer. This is from the potato bed. Good news is, potatoes need potassium and phosphorous the most.
Fertilizer is definitely in order as well as some amending but can't do that right now with new seeds and plants in. Have to augment with maybe some liquid organic? I now know why they have you put so much fertlizer in a new bed per sq foot. I dumped what I thought was a lot of fertlizier in there but guess not. It's better color than last year at least.
Wondering if I should take samples of the compost dirt and see what that looks like? Hmmm.
