It rained a bit last night, or early morning, as the weather said and what I observed out my window. Wonderful smell of plants and grass freshly watered by rain, things are waking up nicely!
Walking Rocky in the morning he decided to go a different direction so I was able to see a garden area that I posted about a year ago. I think they thinned out a lot of the plants in the bed.
It's a shame really, that was a wonderful lush garden and now it looks just kind of...old. Oh well, not my yard and likely the owner or someone decided it was too overgrown and was infringing on the sidewalk.
I counted the sprouts coming up and there's a total of 8 now! I may have marked one incorrectly in the photo.
Yes, they're too tiny to see but being a proud gardener I am showing them off anyway. There are two spouts in the other bed, one of them was being impeded by the logs so had to clear them off.
So the regular watering and shade actually was doing the job! I covered most of it back up but some bright partial sun today will do them good. I then took a good look at the tomato plant and applied my pruners in various spots and forgot to take a picture of the plant but did this instead.
The high iron suspicion now is confirmed by the incredible growth of the tomato. I mistakenly cut a branch at the back and realized I cut a larger side branch that went up through the bush. Ooops, will find out which one that is when it starts dying. There are lots of tomatoes and flowers along with the growth and that cluster is a good example. It needs culling of course so I cut the two smallest ones off and tucked it into the support so it's getting light but being suspended. The red one is at the back and again not very big. Bone meal and eggshell are good sources but take a long time to be available. Will look at fertilizer labels and see what I can find.
And the potatoes are just being ragingly productive! Need to double check the soil nutrients though because having too much nitrogen....not good for root crops.
It was only two weeks ago I was moaning about nothing happening in the garden then suddenly BAM! They woke up and growing at a phenomenal rate, even the cilantro is rebounding fantastically!
Wouldn't be surprised if I have another bunch ready in about a week or so. I think that's going to be my herb and cool season bed until summer really hits. If I let that cilantro go to seed will save them and plant again in the fall. The peas/beans whatever I planted there will be good for another month or so. Need to start saving eggshells to crush and put around the plants for snail deterrent and supplemental calcium.
