93° at 11:54 am. Already buttoned up for the day with the AC running. That is all.
Neighbor downstairs has added a deeper toned windchime which is geat. Not high quality but it's another nice sound to hear when it's breezy.
Got out to the garden almost an hour ago so it was still very warm but had to water. Even with the shade cloth the soil was dry under it and there are seedlings coming up, Marigolds in the north bed for sure and the lettuce in the south!
Hooboy hot! |
Wow! |
The kind of shade frame I'm looking for is something semi permanent for the season but the top comes off so I can water. Inverted V frame with vertical supports to go in the ground and removable shade frames to go on top. (Use my blender skills and maybe make a drawing of what I want.)
I didn't notice the lettuce seedlings until I watered due to higher contrast with darker soil and there they were! The peas are climbing and the potatoes are getting taller. I don't get any money until next week so additional support will have to wait until then. The peas in the north bed are going to need something real, real soon.
I will have to put one of the tomato cages on those peas if I can't get anything else soon.
I was going to use some of the baby gold potatoes for dinner tonight but changed my mind, found about five other potatoes in the cupboard, one huge red and some smaller gold. I tossed two of the golds since they were soft and kept the larger red and one of the golds the other small gold I tossed in the garden basket for planting later.
It will get cooler according to the weather but from here on out it's only going to get worse. April used to be a time of cool weather, rain and sporadic sunshine to do planting. Where I am it's sporadically brutal hot weather, wind and maybe an occasional spatter of rain. It is breezy outside but not a good kind, we're getting a hot inland breeze which only makes it like an air fryer outside.
So, buttoned up staying cool and hydrated. Might head back out in the evening when it cools again and see if they need water again.
