Hydrocultivation and other stuff

Weather the same as yesterday though a wonderful cool wind came up after dark and we took advantage of it with the fans. Considerably more comfortable this morning. Breezy from the south and going to be another warm and clear day. Perfect for whatever sky pyrotechnics may be happening today or tomorrow.

The neighbor apparently decided to dig up most of the weeds in the adjoining bed at least. That means the grasshoppers will be in the other bed but likely still around.

I say most because she left a purslane on the left side and then there's that whatever it is in the corner. Now if she would just tackle the other bed.....

And the bean sprout didn't survive which I'm not surprised about but one of the reasons is, snail trails. Hard to see the sparkles but they are there for sure. I don't think they got the bean sprout but the top was really wilted and thought maybe they had eaten them. Ah well.

I found the tunnel responsible for the marigold and pepper disappearing. Picture on the left is how deep the trowel went when I just dug it in, the second is the direction of the opening. Yeah, bastard.

Hard to see but I grabbed a dog leg shaped log and stuffed it in the tunnel roughly the same diameter of the opening. Here's hoping that's a moderate deterrent.

I planted about five or six beans in the fence bed and hydro-cultivated the south bed. I might put a few cucumber seeds in that one now that it's all level again and cross my fingers.

Leveled it really nicely too. Might go back out there in the evening and put the cucumbers out. I still have bean seeds left and will do the paper towel thing to see who comes up faster. Might transplant a couple of the sunflowers over to the fence bed as well since the cucumber may need pollinators. If they're anything like the zucchini. I still haven't opened the zinnias so that's a choice as well, need to wait until the beans come up, only put them in about a half inch down and watered thoroughly. Will check tonight to see how dry it is and maybe give them a light misting twice a day until they're up.

What I was looking for in a barrier was something that I could just use a hammer and pound into the ground like flat metal stakes  I've seen. Those are expensive for the number I would need but it would work. 1 inch wide and spaced an inch apart might do the trick in the corner where the shovel is and along the wall. Anybody got a mallet? I mean... for the stakes... and maybe play whack-a-gopher.

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
