Supposed to rain, maybe later.

It's overcast but still high clouds, breezy but not too cold. Definitely may rain today but 'today' stretches all the way to midnight technically so will see.

Really needed to dump my scrap container and wash it out so took that down and noticed a cricket moving around. Well, I guess I've made a nice home for the local wildlife. Crickets can hop in or come up through the bottom holes so not worried about that. They are clean up crew and thrive on vegetable scraps. The lizards..if they were big enough would be feeding on the crickets as well as the fruit flies.

There's banana peels, lettuce scraps, coffee grounds, apple peels, garlic and onion scraps, potato peels and bits I think also. Some really healthy stuff and a little of the brown mulch I toss in there as well to counter all the kitchen 'greens'.

As a precaution/prefentative I put a bag over it as a lid to keep the flies down and the rain out. It'll get stuffy in there for the critters but normally a compost container has a lid to keep it from having this problem. When that bucket gets full I'll get a large trash bag and dump it out, let the critters scurry away then shovel it back in.. probably will be loaded with fruit flies and who knows what else. I know worms are in there, likely more coming up from the soil underneath, earwigs, pill bugs (maybe). Whole ecosystem that unfortunately needs to be tossed and stirred around.

Do I really need that bucket of leaves? I could crush them down and add it to the mulch bucket and have an extra bucket for dumping the compost into and then have it as a back up planter/compost bucket. It's going to rain again so dumping the leaves and other stuff is not advised now or after.

Soil is damp(wet really) still, I rinsed out the scrap bucket and used the coffee ground water to put on the potatoes just because. The south bed was still too wet as well as the raised bed. Poured a little into the compost and the rest went on the log pile that used to be the compost pile (still haven't taken that apart).

There's not much else to do in the garden today.Even the birds have been mostly quiet due to the cloud cover. Clear mostly yesterday and today, rain coming and cloudy. Yay for weather!

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
