And the weather continues windy and cloudy and an odd find.

For just casually walking around, a jacket is needed, when doing heavy garden work, not so much. Definitely overcast and I think the one 'garden' guy that planted the pine was out watering this morning because someone yelled his name and the lawns looked wet but not pavement. It's cloudy, it drizzled the other day and the plants do not need any water. The garden didn't look like it rained but there were wet areas near the sprinklers at the entrance of the garden, so yeah.

Still opening flowers, should be an explosion of pink pretty soon, I even saw a bee (second picture up top) going to the flowers. This is a good flower not only for bees but hummingbirds as well.

So it may have rained yesterday but not recently so no watering is needed as noted, due to cloud cover. No more signs of cutworm activity on the onions thankfully and as a reference photo to show how tall the cilantro has gotten:
Those photos are from April 18 so...only about two weeks difference between them. What's so amazing about plants growing? Because they're in my garden, that's why!

Peas are loving the weather of course and the tomatoes are starting to show more roots but are green and healthy. They are really getting close to planting time and I'm nowhere near ready to do so.

I had brought my gloves and clippers with me but I didn't notice that my gloves had fallen out of my pocket on the stairs until I had already finished and was going back up. I got my hands dirty due to finding something in the north bed.

Decided to start removing some of the dirt in the bed and straighten the edges a bit more, only a few shovel fulls about the equivalent of 1/2 cf of dirt still more needs to come out though. I hit something at the back of the bed...solid, not like a rock more like a root?

Didn't give much and it wouldn't let me get through. I scraped some of the dirt and saw something that looked like fabric.Turns out, it was a piece of fabric! My first thought was... oh god please don't let me discover a body or something else frightening.

From the weave of the fabric it looks like denim. Not sure if it's a shirt or pants but...what the heck?! It's more navy or black colored rather than purple. The red of the clay makes it look purple after washing it off best I could with the hose.

Put it on the logs to dry then moved it to one of the branch ends near that log instead for air circulation. I'll be using it to clean my hands off in the future. What the heck though?! I've found bottle pieces from thirty years ago, plant labels, shiny glass pebbles but this is a first and it was a good ten inches or more down! I just have no clue at all.

The lemon tree is still yellowing and then I noticed a disturbance under the branches. The gophers are definitely active around it. It's honestly the only thing in the ground worth eating at this point. The aloes are completely rooted into the ground now but they aren't tasty roots like the lemon.

Several holes! Wow. Those are all fresh too, not looking forward to that lemon tree totally failing from that damage. This also means that I really still need gopher proofing in that north bed.

I have to pay something on my electric bill, my phone bill and internet this week as well as gas for the car. I don't think I'll have the extra $30 for getting the poultry fencing I need for that bed this time. Not unless someone decides to send me an HD gift card out of the kindness of their hearts. I need money for the other bills more than my garden.

Jon is always saying to do the things and get the things that feed your soul. This is feeding my soul but would rather have my bills caught up so I don't feel guilty about spending money on my garden and feeding us and my soul.

This cool weather is deceiving because I know in a month it's going to be a lot sunnier and warmer and cool weather plants like peas and cilantro aren't going to be happy. The cilantro is going to be flowering in the next week or so. Going to be interesting pulling those plants out as all the roots are a pretty thick mat all through there. That may disturb the onions a bit, especially the smaller ones but that means my tomatoes can go in and maybe... just maybe... get what I need for the north bed and get growing.

All the websites and articles about small farms and back yard growers only make me more depressed and frustrated instead of trying to do more with what I have. People on those sites and fb just don't get the situation I'm in because people like me usually don't have access to a computer or a garden so they never are seen or heard.

Okay enough with the sad sack, time to post this and get on with my life.
