Blustery, wind whipped wonderful May 4th!

I'm a dunce for posting may the 4th be with you yesterday. I watched Star Wars as usual on a Wednesday so got ahead of myself. It is a definitely blustery day today, it drizzled enough in the wee hours of the morning to get the dirt and soil definitely wet. Nothing so far in daylight hours but may get more rain later. Plants are happy, flowers are blooming, but also found more snails in the north bed.

Second to pink is yellow as my least favorite color unless mixed with other colors. Dutch iris look better when other colors are mixed in. There's at least four or five different varieties of Dutch Iris colors and all that's in that bed and the other is yellow.

Watsonia is going off now with all stems putting out flowers. There is a pink rose starting to bloom and I can't remember whether that is the suspected Tiffany or a different one.The tree outside continues to fragrance the air as well.

Peas are busting out with the pods still, and the lettuce in the open is much happier with this cooler overcast weather. Was doing a spacing check and I could likely fit in two more tomatoes in this bed after the cilantro is done.

Decided to try and dig a little and turn the soil over in the north bed. Just before putting shovel in..I saw one of the snails. Picked that one up, and there was a second one under it.

And in another spot found a third one. Chucked them all over the wall and then searched for more. Found two more actually and got video of one trying to burrow into the dirt.

That's the picture on the right that I have video of it slowly wobbling to try and dig in.  Little bastards, I think one of the three that I tossed over the wall actually hit the wall so it may be behind the aloe, oh well. They are most likely all camped out under the log pile and in the undisturbed dirt.

In my attempt to feel like I'm being productive I dug around the edges as flat and straight as possible and realized, the bed is not that deep. My shovel hit, what sounded like, cement at the depth of the blade. It doesn't go all the way to the front of the bed, but I had thought the cement started further back. Will take my tape measure down next time and see what the distance is. I may have dug further back than I originally had measured.

It's all good though, there's more than enough room and am hoping I can trench out that area for gopher proofing next week. Adding in the amendments will give it all some extra fluff. I worried for a moment when I was digging with the trowel that one part along the front was really loose like there was a tunnel there. I then relaxed because I remember digging the front edge a week or so ago. Doh!

I am hoping to wind that tomato through the trellis like they describe doing with twine between two stakes. I have enough wire to tie it up as well but the more that I can get caught up in the solid trellis the better. The onions are still doing good, no sign of damage or predation just have to figure out what else to put in there for the moment.

I really wanted to do strawberries somewhere this year and the best place would be the window box that I'm using for a tomato table at the moment. I would also need some soil and the plants of course, might ask someone on the exchange groups if anyone has some.

Still scouring the market and groups for supplies that I need. I found one company that was listing a 6x4x1 metal raised bed frame for $10. Of course my first thought is scam so what's the catch? $69 shipping fee. Yep... sorry it does not cost that much to ship something like that. At the most it'll be half that so they're just scamming the other direction with the shipping cost. Oh well.

The beat goes on as the song goes.
