Busy day yesterday and feeling it today

The wind came up fierce in the afternoon yesterday and my brain immjediately said, 'weather change coming, dry and hot'. Sure enough it is still windy but it was clear skies this morning, early morning to boot so as they say, 'it has begun'. It was already 80 in the kitchen by noon, luckily the stiff breeze is coming through the window to keep the air moving.

Oh finally got a picture of the trumpet vine in bloom, could have done better but was with Rocky and that had to be good enough.

Along with the bonus 'planter' from our morning run for food and supplies, a friend decided to come by and drop off all the things for us she had gathered and shopped for. I am so eternally grateful for her family willing to part with things they have a glut of and shopping for the things we needed. It was all kitchen food and then there was the sunflower.

You see they are going on a long vacation back east in a week and there was a sunflower their daughter had been growing. It needed a new home.

Very leggy but I decided to drop it behind the tomatoes in the south bed. Unfortunately it can't be buried deep like tomatoes but I gave it some support of a tomato cage so the wind didn't blow it over. Hopefully it will straighten and grow tall and strong now.

I added a cage to the tomatoes on the right as well because one of them was falling over seriously. It's much too big to put a cage over it at this point so will have to just support from the side since  I don't have any stakes left.

The north bed and radishes. I had to push the tomato branches back to get a full sun picture. Debating whether to trim that one leaf back for more sun on them. Might even need some more thinning as well, too bad they're a root crop and don't transplant well or I'd move them where the other radishes were supposed to grow along the front.

The coriander is definitely shading the tomato so I shifted it to the left to get more sun on the tomato. I then saw a branch of the tomato sticking out the back (can barely see part of it lower left corner on the left picture) and tucked it to the front through the trellis.

With the heat ramping up I will likely be watering daily. The soil is dry on the surface but still very wet underneath. If I had some straw I would be putting that out for mulch. The bucket I have is not really suitable for using with the potting type soil as it will get mixed in too easily.

I added an entire cantaloupe of scraps to the second compost bucket. The other compost is kind of lumpy and still shows bits of eggshell, banana peel and potato peels. Stirred it this morning and tossed a scoop or two onto the other green compost. Fruit flies were everywhere.

Will be watering tomorrow morning for sure as it got into the mid to high 80's today and everything will need it. That's basically it for today, hot, breezy and not much going on in the garden.
