Cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers oh my!

Another warm and breezy day today and got a late start unfortunately so it was very warm on my back as I took pictures and inspected the cucumbers.

But first, about last night....

That will likely be the first one to pick because it's the biggest. Thinking maybe another week or so if they grow as fast as zucchini.

The one in the corner is a little crooked but it's all good. That tiny one next to it is twice that size today.

Yes! See what I mean? These things are growing faster than a roller coaster. I only found one today that needed pollinating but there will surely be more by end of the weekend.

Just an idea of scale, it's already as long as my index finger. That one will be first to harvest as long as the pill bugs don't get it first. I've got a lot of flowers that have been nibbled to death and my suspicion is correct that in nature, vines like this are pollinated by ground traveling insects not flying.

Yes there were tomatoes harvested but nothing special. And the gifted pepper plant.

The top half of two of those tomatoes are tan and squishy so am suspecting sunscald. I brought them all upstairs anyway and may likely just pick the rest of the red ones and let them ripen on the counter. The pepper I suspect may be one of the thai chiles that Dolores is growing. She said she had one coming up and would give it to me if she could find a container for it. i reached into my bucket and plucked out the container that the sunflower had been in. Voila! She put it there I guess either last night or early this morning because it was long enough for worms to come to the surface.

I was digging around before and didn't see any worms at all either in the compost or the soil and suddenly these guys show up under that cup. Hmmmm... lt's all good because I was wondering yesterday where the worms are in that bed. Yay! I moved the pepper to the shade in front of the strawberries until it can get a bit bigger. It's a bit late to be planting peppers but will take it.

Dolores and I chatted about what's happening in our respective gardens last night and she said there are tomatoes on her plants now. She showed them to me and I don't remember pollinating those but she thanked me for helping her plants. I told her about having the empty spot in the bed because I pulled the tomato. You know, garden chat stuff. I showed her the cilantro/coriander plants that had dried and told her how I had plenty and pulled some off for her. She seemed confused about what coriander was and I told her those are the seeds from cilantro. Her face lit up, 'oh I know cilantro, I didn't know it was also coriander'.  She sprinkled them in one of her containers and thanked me.

My happy little garden and the sunflower is now tied to the tomato cage for support.  It's definitely forming seeds and when I was sitting with my little friend Addie who had entrusted it with me I asked what kind it was and she said she thought it was a Mammoth Grey. I laughed and said, well it's anything but mammoth but it's growing seeds and showed her a picture. She's absolutely tickled that it's flowered and surviving.

My day is made putting a smile on faces with gardening. It's nice to have someone else to talk gardening with as well.
