And Spring Rains it is and carrots!

The day started out kind of high cloud hazy but had all the hallmarks of it raining later stiff wind blowing from the west this time. Started about an hour ago around 1:40, so good thing I made sure to get out to the garden early. Not a driving rain, nor heavy, just nice gentle rain blown around occasionally by the wind. And just as I finish typing that, the rain starts coming down harder.

It was a very nice morning but you can see the dark layer in the distance.

I hadn't planned on doing much int he garden, just checking on things and specifically the carrots and the one that showed orange yesterday. Well I pulled it and was dismayed.

It didn't just fork, it also was split to the core. There was a divot on the right side where the smaller fork was as well. It should have been pulled a few weeks ago from the look of it. I took it upstairs grabbed something that I needed to bring back down and then proceeded to pull the rest of the carrots.

Short and stout carrots, the smaller ones may not have a lot of flavor but they'll be fine. Cleaned and into the fridge now. The forked one I cut up and put in the scrap bucket with the tops as it was very bitter and tough. Smallest ones will have the same fate. I have no idea what I'm going to do with all these carrots. But there's more room in the beds now.

I left a few behind that were still small on top but now, the lettuces have more sunshine and rain. The hacking of the cilantro in that bed is more obvious and I just may pull those as well and toss some seed in the south bed.

The two tomato seedlings seem to be the only ones going right now, it's still a bit early for starting hot peppers and the squash or cucumbers. I dearly hope I can have tomatillo salsa this summer. Need to look at my planting plans and see what my ambitions were a few months ago. It's not likely I'm going to have money for any amount of soil and driving to the dump uses valuable gas.

With the front door open and the back window open, the cold breeze coming through the window is wonderful smelling of rain. Still drizzly outside so it's going to be be very wet most of the day which is good, my car needed a wash and the garden just got watered last night.

Tried to get a picture of the moon, as always it's much smaller in camera than to the naked eye.

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
