It rained on and off yesterday, a few times it was a downpour for less than a minute and then cleared off in the wee hours enough that I had a potty wake up and looked out the west facing window to see the full moon. Right now it's partly cloudy and breezy, not as windy as yesterday but still stiff breezy.
The trees are making striking silhouettes against the sky and clouds. I kept looking around at the sky and there were beautiful snapshots everywhere.
According to the weather app, might get some rain this evening and if those dark clouds are any indication and the increasing cloud cover, yeah. More rain on the way.
The bed is looking rather sparse now but there's onions, carrots and lettuce still. Not counting the snow peas and cilantro (which I pulled most all but one plant). Sweet peas are continuing to grow and looks like no flowers for Easter but definitely sometime in late April. The corner is very wet and dark, the cilantro there was either pillaged by someone or something.
Onions have tripled their size in less than a week, fastest way of getting onions in the garden for sure. West bed is still looking good as well. The cauliflower will likely be a bust because in another month or two it's going to be too hot, they won't be making a good size head at all.
I got a close look at the lettuce stump to notice more snail activity and sure enough, there was a decollate buried right next to it. Had to use the leaf stem to tease it out of the dirt then promptly tossed it over the wall. The tomatoes are still doing good, lots of water in catch containers. That seedling tray was sitting in the clear container with about an inch of water, got that out of course and the little coffee pot is full and the small tin container on the porch is also. So little bits here and there saved out.Water drops caught in the pea leaves, couldn't resist getting pictures. Little moments like that are wonderful to catch. In retrospect I should have knocked the water out after I got the pictures because it might burn the leaves. Oh well.
Cut the tops off all but the biggest carrot (tip to shoulder of carrot is about 8 inches!) and took them down to the compost as well. Used one of the smaller carrots in a carrot dish I made today.
The amaryllis bloomed! I just noticed them a week ago and here they are blooming like crazy. They're a luscious orange color rather than red. There's three or four different orange varieties so not even going to guess on that. Just wish they made good cut flowers, I know it's possible but not going to deprive anyone else of seeing such a gorgeous display.
More flowers that are in bloom with the Bird of Paradise, Indian Hawthorn and the wind is whipping the eucalyptus at a near 45 degree angle. Hang on birdies!
The hawks were out this morning probably taking advantage of the break in the weather to go grab some food. I am about 90% sure they have eggs up there already and parents are going to need as much food as possible to keep them and the babies healthy.
Exciting time for the weather and waiting for new things in the garden.
