More gorgeous spring weather and should continue for a while. At least until the next big wind comes around. Just gentle breeze right now but it was windy yesterday so there you go.
Had to get the picture of the bright green tree with the blue sky. The photo, again, is a tad darker than it really was but still a wonderful color combo. The stark difference between whatever that tree is and the liquidambars is something else. That green tree though, was loaded with tiny flowers and bees last month and then in the fall drops seeds. I'll have to research it again.
Honestly, best garden ever. There's wonderful diversity and thriving plants in both beds. Carrots are almost done, radishes are in the same state (in the raised bed at least), the Romaine is just incredible and 'nuf said about the peas and cilantro.
Radishes still have a ways to go but not long and those little lettuce seedlings are Finally getting going.
When those get big enough I might move them again to the south bed because those will be the last thing to be harvested in that entire bed. Everyone else will be gone and those will be holding that bed hostage unless I move them.
These are getting huge! Didn't bring a knife or anything with me so they stay intact for a while longer. The one on the right is making a center like it should and the other is slightly bigger but more open. Either way, huge plants for salad, I cut a few leaves last night for salad. No bitterness just a nice light texture and just enough of that flavor of Romaine.
I culled another radish or two that were not forming a bulb then thinned a carrot as well. I am so looking forward to those sweet peas flowering! They're supposed to be much taller, these are an old fashioned mix so technically need to be at least double that height when they flower. Wondering if there's too much sun for both pea types right now. Doesn't matter how tall as long as I get some nice flowers off them.
I realized when I was out in the garden I had a container for seeds already! Brought it upstairs to my 'potting bench' and chose the California Wonder pepper and the Aroma tomatoes. Looking back through previous posts I planted the pepper and tomato seeds last year in February and the tomatoes were ready by April or May to transplant. Those were also grown in the peat pellets so we'll see how they work with a different variety and soil.
I know the peppers and tomatoes will look different when they sprout but I just realized I didn't mark the two rows. I just pushed the container to the back of the shelf as is so peppers on the left and tomatoes on the right and only about five seeds each this time.
I didn't start the JalapeƱos because those are much warmer season and so is the squash. So I will be planting those next month or end of this month and hope everything goes well for transplanting in May. It may seem like I'm a bit late but the weather is a factor as well as what I have in my beds that are still growing. Tomatillos are in the same category as tomatoes so technically need to be started now as well. The squash ... will just have to see how things shape up in that west bed and maybe do direct seeding for those.
That's it for today. Weather, seeds and plants, what more could you want from a garden?
