Clear skies again, more room in the raised bed

It is perfectly clear, not even haze on the horizon from my viewpoint. Just breezy enough to make it a picture perfect day.

Of all the trees I love taking pictures of that Eucalyptus against the sky. It has wonderful shapes and coloring to set it off from the blue background. No need for any other photos and honestly, didn't have my phone to take any this morning when I was walking Rocky.

I decided to pull the radishes that had more green up top than root. Those tops are way out of proportion compared to the others in the west bed. They had small bulbing happening but really wasn't worth waiting for. I suspect it wasn't so much high nitrogen as too much shade from the carrots and Romaine. With the potato, Romaine and those gone there's tons of room now but can't forget the smaller lettuces that are picking up the pace.

With more room and warm temperatures the lettuces should be growing a bit more. I left the radishes under the potato and that corner because I know the bugs like to nibble on them. I tossed the tops into the compost pile of course.

The cauliflower in the west bed are finally starting to grow but it may be too late by the time they get to size. I picked some of the peas as well, not as many now but there's flowers still on the plants so those will stay in the ground for a while.

So there is room in that bed once again but nothing to plant there as yet. Waiting for the tomato and peppers to sprout, but once the carrots get pulled (getting close with those as well) hopefully will be time for more seedlings. I seem to recall handling carrots with tops from the store and the leaf stems were smooth. These are very rough close to the base which makes me wonder what types they have in the store. I have to check the ones in the west bed for sure since the tops on those are the tallest.

My potato harvest compared to the three storebought from a bag. Not too shabby. I used the two larger of mine with the three store potatoes in mashed potatoes today. The skin was russet looking but rougher and lighter colored. Inside was not yellow at all that would be like a yukon so still thinking they were the russet pieces I planted. If I had room I would plant another batch of them. The radishes had signs of nibbling on them which is why I left them in the bed near the other plants.

I still want to plant more green onions. I've got some store bought in the fridge, will have to cut the tops off and plant the bottoms along one of the sides in the raised bed maybe. Or the south bed.

Yay for sunny days!

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
