It started out cloudy this morning but the sun broke through around noon. Still breezy/windy and still expecting rain tomorrow or Saturday. I hear House Sparrows, Purple Finches, little Bewick's Wrens and Phoebe's lately but didn't see any in the garden yesterday and today.
Big puffy clouds and blue skies but now, judging from the view out my window, there's lots more clouds moving in. More cloud than sky and the sun is being covered quickly.
I made sure there wasn't an easy access to the open soil last night. Difficult with tall cilantro and onions but was careful and used some of the green wire even to make it even more difficult.
That one radish that sneaked in somehow at the back is going strong and one of the carrots, not so much from the same bed. Sweet peas are just going nuts I tell ya!
Even got some of the chicken wire over the raised bed and a shot of the west bed with Dolores' planter box. Everything survived the night and whatever dug the holes may have just moved on and didn't bother coming here again.
Yep everything hunky dory this morning. Dolores planted her chives in the box, and said her new pepper she bought was going in the other box along the wall.
It looks like all five of the seedlings are tomatoes. No peppers yet but I remember they were slow to sprout last time and they're getting more sun this time so here's hoping. I pulled the two cilantro that were growing on the back of the bed, so much more growing now I didn't really need it. The lettuces are going crazy, the carrots are still poking along. I keep pushing the dirt aside to check on where the carrot is and they're all still rather low in the dirt.
I went to use one of the Romaine in the fridge last night and discovered a slug in one of them. They were wilted anyway and my darling man is squeamish about that so they went in the compost bucket. I gave them both as good a toss as possible. One of the Phoebes on their favorite perch (as evidenced by the poop streaks on the top ball of the umbrella). None were in the garden today or yesterday but saw a lizard again that scooched behind the aloe on the north wall.
I totally missed that rose blooming the last few days. No fragrance but a wonderful pink. the Amaryllis is still pumping out flowers. There's two stalks of buds so total of five or six flowers. The red geranium, there's a pink that was blooming, all kinds of things just popping with flowers now.
Errands to run and rain tomorrow so might not make it out to check on things. It is Spring after all.
