More seeds planted and breezy day

Today was similar to yesterday, starting out cloudy but the wind came up and blew them all way. My indicator of how windy it is and which direction is the windchimes downstairs. One deeper note set is closer to the walkway and when the wind comes from a certain direction those go off more than the higher pitched ones on the other side of the tree. So it's been deeper tones and blustery day today so far. No rain predicted until Valentines Day, a good 11 days from today so good time to get some more seeds in the ground

But first, I decided to transplant the garlic. Roots were healthy, bulb looked about the size of a green onion and I dug deep enough and lifted so as many of the roots were intact. You can see how with the watering from yesterday and morning overcast, watering today wasn't necessary.

Cherry Belle radish and Thumbelina carrots, see how well they do over here in the sun. Yes, I know I was going to plant the tomato there but by the time everything gets growing I'll be able to plant the tomatoes. Going to try and experiment with starting them in something. Oh, speaking of that I forgot a semi-crucial part of planting the peas. I didn't soak them. It may be a while before they show up.

I ended up with just enough of the radishes to toss them on the other side of the garlic and be done with those. These are all a year old seeds, maybe older so germination may be impacted but as they say, location, location, location. More sun warming the soil may be the ticket to getting them to sprout faster.

I tossed a little dirt onto the compost yesterday and then added what little I have today. Mostly coffee grounds with a little onion and garlic skins. I have a bunch of celery that's gone limp again so will be pulling that out and chopping it up to put in there. The south bed is now just showing lettuce, the soil wasn't too bed but a bit clay clumpy when I dug up the garlic. I still have lettuce seeds so if something happens there I'll sprinkle them in the raised bed later.

Still dirt. that's about it for the other bed, it's going to be a while before the potatoes start showing sprouts. I suspect when the soil is getting more sun it'll make a difference. I'll use those two logs and a couple of others to make a frame and maybe add some dirt and mulch around them when they start growing.

And the hummers shifted position so they're facing away from my usual position and actually saw some pin feathers on a wing. Eyes are completely open and they are still holding the 'I'm not a bird I'm a branch' position with beaks in the air. I was smart this time and cropped the photo so it's more of a close up.

The clump of narcissus have come up again with no flowers. I don't know the trick to getting them to flower, other than getting them out of the asparagus patch or actually chilling them with ice in December. Not my clump, not my job to care for them, just wondering because I've seen them come up before with no flowers, lord knows how long they've been there.

The only spring flowers we have so far are the Jade plant and maybe some small flowers on the asparagus fern. Once again a matter of less money than ambition and that's a big gap there even with the ambition I've got. Oh to be able to just grab my keys and head to a garden center, pick up whatever looks good and go wild with planting right?

That's a gardener's dream right there.

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
