Weather is overcast but the high 'thin' type where it has very little water and just makes a barrier in the sky. Supposed to be an annular solar eclipse today.... right. Wouldn't know it where we are.
These are the 'Chinese Flame' trees otherwise known as Koelruteria bipinnata I took pictures of a week ago. No one really notices them until the seed pods start 'blooming'. Deeper red ones are younger than the pink but they all have seeds that will be sprouting EVERYWHERE! Not my favorite tree, they don't belong in anyone's garden or yard, not even in a park.
I trimmed back the little roses and there seems to be a lot of new growth thankfully. Just not watering it and will keep it in the shade until it starts sprouting again. Wrong time of year I know but it's for survival reasons. The flowers and buds and leaves that were on it would have sapped the strength even more. I might give them a shot of fertilizer as well but honestly need to wait until I can transplant them. They will be going in the window box as soon as I get some soil.
I trimmed a bit of the oregano as well. It's still struggling unfortunately. Very soft and not happy at all. Being kept inside, in a plastic cone and watered way too much. Hoping the roots are still good. The one on the left has a lot of newer growth at the base and with luck that one will be the stronger to survive. Still not sure where I'm putting those either but opportunity will happen.
I put the oregano cuttings in the raised bed to see if the bugs would eat them. Not a single sprig was touched. Bastards. A few of the rose petals were in there and there were a few nibbles on those so... oregano is a bug deterrent? Who'd have thought? I put the pepper back in the sun today after giving it a splash of water. The silver cup at the bottom of the picture is from the rose. I decided to take it out of that and put it back in the shade. I can't make up my mind today about where to put things.
There are now 5 lettuce sprouts coming up....yay! Out of dozens that I seeded in those trays. Wow. I think the two largest ones are Red Sails as they have a tinge of pink at the base of their tiny baby leaves (upper left in the tray on the left).
And speaking of where to put things, this bakers rack was out on the patio and I told the person who just put it there I'll take it. I put it up on my deck area at the end of the railing and will be my potting bench area. Need to go back down and see what else was on that table. I saw a meat pounder and another potato masher... have to check that out.
More small holes in the zinnia and can't find the little buggers that are doing it. This is where having a spray like spinosad comes in handy. Can't find them but know they're there, spray and it's sure to get them when they start eating again.
Now that I have a potting bench of sorts just need the soil and will be able to get some seeds started in earnest.
