Gardening is my therapy

The weather is now cooling down and cloudy yay! It even misted/sprinkled last night so now 100% accuracy with wind predictions. Wonderfully cool day and still not much in the garden, but new 'adoptees'.

We did the food distribution for the complex and they usually include cut flowers and dying plants. I saw an orchid but someone said it was spoken for already (turned out it wasn't) another orchid that was done flowering and two oregano plants. Some basil plants that were farrrr gone for resurrecting and some miniature roses. Snag! Pictures of those coming up.

 Meanwhile back in the garden....

I think the flower for October should now be Bird of Paradise. It's more colorful, it's tropical and perennial, and in our climate blooms in October. No  more boring Calendula...who the heck thought of that? Zinnias are still going great and just wish more had survived.

Proof that it did rain last night, water in the scoop and soil is wet. Also the cilantro is finally coming up! Yeah can't see much but it's there, not much else though.

Now, on with the new members of my plant family!

Little Red Rosie that was obviously oversaturated in it's decorative pot so I cleaned all the wilted and brown leaves off and have left it outside in the sun.

The final place for the orchid is just to the left of the cat tree on a book case. I will be moving it to our bedroom at night because there is no safe place to keep it with Rocky left to his own devices. I am pretty sure the orchid is an Oncidium and so therefore her name will be Octavia (I was going to use Olivia but I have a sister in law with that name and would rather not use it). Also no, I don't usually name my plants. That's silly, so I'm in a silly mood right now. The oregano is oregano.

The two oregano plants I think are going to go in that bed. The looked water abused as well, couldn't tell whether it was over or under but I splashed them with water and left them there. I really could have used a thyme plant instead but I took what was there. Will see what they look like this evening. All of this took place around noon so despite there being sun right there, clouds have moved in now so it's not brutally hot.

Since all these new plants have been in a store and likely greenhouse grown there may be some failure on the rose and oregano but the orchid should do just fine. From what I have just read, they take indirect light and 'low' humidity just fine (low being around 40%). If she's happy, might see another bloom spike in the spring. Information says they like windowsills. Sorry, not my windowsills. One is a hothouse in the afternoon all year round and is appropriated by a cat and the other is not safe from the cat either.

So bookshelf it is and hope for the best.

Gardening and knitting are my therapy and hobbies, equally frustrating and rewarding in turn but mostly rewarding. For now.
