Weather is pretty much ditto of yesterday though a few plane trails are smudging the light powder blue sky. Last night though, I had to take the trash out just after sunset, my phone didn't suck too badly getting the colors.
Just wish I had a more glamorous foreground silhouette for the shot and higher elevation, not to be had so got the pictures anyway.
Romaine is continuing to grow along with a few seeds that landed in the container and not in the pellets, I think this is going to be a good lettuce to grow all the way to spring. The sweet peas are continuing to grow thankfully, seems so far to be three out of four have sprouted which is just fine considering the success of the last two tries.
One zinnia cone setting seed, not that I need more seed but the rest of the bush doesn't seem to be following the clue to shut down. There are now 11 carrot sprouts coming up, I thinned two out that were right next to another sprout. Going to have to take my tweezers out there next time. I might even go sift some soil in the raised bed and plant some along the front.
Same time of day, this morning and the two different beds. Pictures were taken before 10 am, raised bed still has some sun (watered the snow peas at the back) and the west bed is in total shade. Likely only had about two or maybe three hours of sun at the most in early morning. You can see where it would clear the building on the left, climb up toward the south and then the south wall would start to shade it. So definitely a better bed for lettuces and greens in the winter. Hope the carrots have enough to keep going.
The single onions in the cups I am not completely thrilled with how they're progressing. Practically stalled out and no other seeds to plant that's different. Out of the burgundy and green onions, so the ones that are growing right now are the unknown white variety. Hoping to get to the library soon (was in the neighborhood this morning but didn't have a chance) and see if they have onions. I doubt I can call and ask them what they have and they certainly wouldn't 'hold' a package or envelope for me.
I mean it's not that expensive to go buy seeds but right now but places like Walmart, HD and Target have moved most of their garden stuff off the floor entirely and in the case of HD, there are no seeds at all until January. Stupidheads. Luckily seed prices are the same no matter where you go because it's set and printed right on the package how much it is.
So if I were to plant carrot seeds along the front of the raised bed, where am I putting all those containers? Honestly, the onions can go, a year to wait for them to be big enough to pull is not my game. The oregano and roses can go off to the side next to the potatoes, lettuces can move to the right so I think there's enough room in the middle still for things if I need the front area. Guess I'll try and remember to do that tomorrow.
Off to do other things and put my jacket on as it's very chilly in the house.
