It's been four days, time for an update

Weather is clear and has been freezing for the past three nights. Freezing as in no wind, very low temperatures and dew point all converging. Some areas reported under 30 degrees. It's been in the low 30's in the morning lately for me.

This morning's temp and you can see that at night it drops another few degrees after only getting in the 60's. (Wish there was a way of not showing the southeast and east weather warnings).

Lonnnnng Bird of Paradise flower stem. I knew they were long but even that's rediculous in my experience. Of course the bushes in the breezeway between the buildings are shaded a lot so they tend to be taller but overall very tolerant of shade and still bloom. Skies aren't that blue, again but still crystal clear and wonderful backgdrop for the  mostly naked trees. While walking Rocky I discovered something odd. Not one, but two pecans. I have no idea where the tree is these might be coming from. Yes, they are pecans because I broke the first one open. So, very odd to see them just out on the lawn. But then, this morning and yesterday there was evidence of a bird being caught and a furred animal, possibly a rabbit as well. So the hawks and cats have been busy. I suspect the pecan is from the crows or ravens trying to crack them. I haven't seen or heard any other birds in the area that might be the culprit.

Substantial damage on the potatoes. I tried to rig up a snail/slug trap but nothing was in it. I will have to be more diligent about something that works. Since those are potatoes I don't want to go digging into the soil near them and disturbing the baby spuds. I left one leaf out on the bare dirt, not even in the bed and it was completely cleaned. So definitely snails in the area because I saw the trails. Found four or five of them hiding under leaves near the log pile two days ago.

I got ambitious and decided to check the compost buckets since they stopped stinking and it isn't so blazing hot.

Those are the tomato plants I ripped out months ago. Barely rotted, and three tomatoes that were almost perfectly fine. One I swear could have been picked fresh just yesterday.

I left them in strategic spots in the raised bed as bait but didn't see any nibbles on them. I divvied up the composting plants into the two buckets and then dumped a wad of potato skins from last nights dinner. I would like to say that it's a good start to the compost for this year, just need some greenery and a bit of soil to inoculate it.

The Romaine is gaining size and I decided to cultivate the soil preparing for the cauliflower that I again, almost transplanted. Still a few more weeks to go with those little guys. The soil was good but cold and dry. Will water tomorrow when the sun hits it. I used Dolores' little watering can and watered the three sweet pea seeds that are planted on the trellis so they can keep going.

My lovely little garden, wishing it was bigger but I'm happy for what I have.

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
