The day started out overcast, like it will for the next few weeks but by the time noon rolled around it was sunny and breezy. We had a sudden power outage, while I was out in the garden, of the transformer/relay box type that made a huge zapping boom sound. Scared me so bad thought I was gonna have a heart attack. Power was out for about an hour or so thankfully but man, that is a freaky and frightening sound.
Where I thought the sound had come from only because I saw the power lines swaying. Apparently it was further down the street to the west and the amount of electricity just made the lines jump. That is the loquat I watered the other day. Looking so much happier now, makes me smile even though it's in the worst possible place for a loquat.
I decided to transplant the tomatillos. I think the tiniest plant at the base of the one on the left is actually a pepper. I planted three in the raised bed.
While I was using the cultivator and stirring the dirt I heard leaves shuffling like something moving around. I saw quick movement and the black lizard was inside the crate trying to get out. It finally stopped in the upper corner and I tried to work as quickly as possible.
I planted the three biggest ones and tansplanted the other five, yes, five plants in the clear cups. I hopefully saved out the small, tiny pepper plants in the same container. I'm going to try and get out to lightly water down the soil. I hope those tomatillos doing get too big. Might even move the one in the back corner closer to the trellis just in case. The roots were really well tangled together so it was a lot of gentle shaking and teasing them apart. Once that carrot is out that spot will likely be a pepper but still holding out that middle for a squash and the trellis for tomatoes.
I'm glad to see the oregano is thriving but that pepper Dolores gave me, I swear hasn't grown an inch since I planted it. I might pull it out and put one of the other peppers in there instead. That round leaf seedling I am guessing might be purslane seed that found it's way in. Waiting for the next set of leaves and if it's the same thing, I'm yanking it. Yay for jalapeƱos, the poblanos are finally coming up as well so the west bed is going to be peppers looks like.
So much excitement and posting delay. I think that sound is going to haunt me for a few days.
