Got out last night when it was much cooler and dug up one of the peppers and the last marigold. I had to use dirt from the fence bed because that was the most amended area to fill in with the leftover in the bag. Gopher is still pestering the neighbor bed as well.
I am ashamed that when I dug up the pepper a lot of good roots were left behind. Nice fat white ones and clumps of smaller feeder roots. At the time I hoped that it didn't lose too many of them in the process.
Dumped what was left and mixed it up but was still woefully short of amendment. The pepper is a bit deeper than I like but it will be fine.
Yes, that is a tunnel coming from the back of the bed past the bean plant to where the marigolds were. The entire bed is just done. Once I get the peppers out I'll figure out what to do with the sunflowers and level the soil to put the buckets there. Might move them over to the fence bed instead.
Half the roots of the marigold were gone but I tried to save it anyway. Was not successful as I discovered this morning but I wasn't surprised.
I'm not sure but I think the gopher must have pushed around more dirt because I don't remember the dirt being all that loose and even consistency but the tunnel wasn't blocked. The neighbor watered this morning and as her usual thing, left the hose in the aloe to run while she turns it off. Doesn't bother putting it away again so in the heat it will have a kink in it. Not permanent but it isnt' good for the hose to sit like that.
In reverse order, the seedling coming up is a cucumber as I suspected and remembered, I almost dug up one of the other seeds in my frustration last night. Also there is another coming up that I planted a few days ago, gee whiz.
The soil was perfectly damp last night so I didn't water and only the surface is dry in the other bed so not going to water those either. So there's my new garden situation. Will get out and get some potting soil for the other two peppers and then pick up all the bark pieces and shift those over to the south bed and maybe the fence bed. I am lucky with this soil because it drains so well due to the sandy texture, this would be a mucky mess and would be raised beds right off the bat if it were any other situation.
Pictures and decisions will be posted when it happens.
