Clouds hung around until around noon today but they didn't roll back in yesterday until around six so it kind of shifts back and forth like that. Gophers are still in the garden but not in my beds (so far) but they are wreaking havoc around the lemon bush. Nothing wilting so far but it's worrisome that there were five new holes under it's canopy today. I didn't get out to the garden yesterday evening because there really wasn't much to do.
Rocky decided to take a different direction this morning and walked toward the front of the complex. This cactus was a surprise for sure, with a violet growing under it in the same box.
Two completely opposite plants co-habitating and thriving. The violet is shaded by the mock orange bush and the cactus and the cactus is getting sufficient sun (btw that is actually a type of euphorbia). The orange flowers are actually from a bougainvillea that's around the corner behind it.
I have seen succulents and shade plants surviving together before but this was a surprise for sure. I'm tempted to keep going back and hoping to catch some of the seeds. I don't have anywhere to plant them though.
Watsonia and the Angel Face rose are blooming. Again Rocky not cooperating so I got as close as I could to the rose. There's actually two roses on that little bush and might have to go over there on my own and give a good smell. I had an Angel Face rose tree when I had a house so it has some sentimental value to it.
Nothing amazing about these pictures other than one was taken with HDR on and the other wasn't. The left was taken without HDR, brighter but less contrast and definition.
Watsonia is true coloring and lighting without HDR, rather overcast this morning but the pink was catching all the light.
Tomato and lettuce, cilantro and more! I have more than enough cilantro cut in the fridge which is why I'm letting this go to seed. Just two flower heads at the moment which may only get me about a dozen or so seeds but don't really need that much for planting.
Onions are looking good for sure, no apparent new damage so yay for that. The leaves on the seed grown are getting nice and fat but not very green. Still too soon for fertilizer and it could be due to being in more full sun than the cutting grown ones being shaded by the cilantro.
Never mind the difference in color but the one on the left is from this evening and the one on the right from this morning. Hole in the corner of Layla's bed that connected outside it. There were other new holes under the lemon as well.
Then I noticed the one in front of the cement 'love letter' along the wall. They are just running rampant over there and I am thankful I got all the chicken wire fencing down. Just need the soil and I'm off and running.
More from this evening, that lettuce is picking up the pace but is also being chewed on, will try and rake the soil tomorrow and check for cutworms.
Picked some more peas and cilantro this evening as well. The lettuce won't be ready for a while but that's okay, might have to move that lettuce as big as the tomato is getting. Once the cilantro is done I'll be putting in another tomato and maybe a pepper. My salsa garden will be almost complete! Well I do need to grow some yellow or red onions but those take longer, maybe for next year. I at least have scallions (green onions) and all that's left is hot peppers. Need to find some jalapeƱos, maybe just one plant will do. Not seeds, takes too long, will see about doing that next month.
