Another glorious day, lettuce seeds planted

For the next few days it will be in the mid to high 70's which is great. It got pretty windy last night and I was enjoying the sound of the chimes then it dawned on me. Wind means weather change. Sure enough it's going to pop up into the 80's over the weekend and nights will be in the 50's. Wow! Weather is progressively cooling down so nothing higher than low 80's. YAY IT'S FALL!

But first, pest check in.

I put these leaves out as bait for the bugs, they already have holes in them so taking a picture to see the difference was the idea. I picked some tops off the onions intending to take them upstairs and decided to just toss them in the bed as well.

Same leaves the next morning (well except for the on on the lower right, but that one was a whole leaf as well). Yeah... there's pill bugs galore in that bed. I need to start figuring out how to mitigate that issue with new seedlings going in soon.

So on with the seed planting!

So I brought down the containers and the seeds, pulled out the Mixed Salad seeds and the Red Sails.... wow. The lady only gave me about six of those and I thought... screw it, it's all lettuce so I just added the red sails into the mixed lettuce. I used a chopstick and did three rows in each container, sprinkling them as best I could in a straight line. Once they come up I'll thin to three or four plants in each row and somehow make plugs out of them to transplant.
I still have some of the planting peat pellets but want to save those for things like the sweet peas that need the room to grow separately.

The potting soil was still very damp in the bottom of the bag so I didn't bother watering and put the containers in that spot for convenience. It was after noon by the time I finished and the sun was sporadic between the clouds.  Didn't bother watering any of the rest of the garden either but will see about doing that tonight.

Oh! Where's the pepper you say? I moved it into the sun because it seemed to be getting a bit leggy.  The onions are doing well, they need to be a bit leggy and the strawberries are still going strong, I might put them out in the sun as well to give them a boost.

I pulled off the two small extra sunflower buds on the stem and inspected the zinnias because of more evidence of worms. Didn't find any and shook the plant to get the frass off for reference tomorrow.

So other than that, not much else going on. Going to take another week or so for the onions to think about sprouting, if they do. Might have to just move that whole group into the sun for various and sundry reasons. Onions need warm soil temperatures and the strawberries  need more sun to boost root growth so there you go. The lettuce stays where it is.

Must not plant in the raised bed, must not plant in the raised bed.....

Well, calamity struck.

I never got out to the garden yesterday because I figured it wasn't worth it. I should have watered because it's been dry of course...
