Wonderful mild day, mostly clear skies and a repeat tomorrow and Monday. Just enough breeze to need a sweater in the shade, more than enough sun to be out in short sleeves.
Different kind of bird spotting. There is a municipal airport nearby and it has a small aerospace museum. Those two tiny dots are WWII planes that come out on the weekends. I am not good on most plane models but I think they were Spitfires, had red stripes on the wings and a similar profile. You can tell by the engines they are not your usual Cessna or whatever.
The lettuce are showing signs of leaping growth. I transplanted one and the roots are really long, at least an inch or more which is huge compared to the size of the plant! They just needed to be separated from each other and spaced out to stretch more.
The cauliflower are all happy too. This sun break is going to do wonders for all of them to really get going. Yes that is still a brussels sprout sitting next to the seedling. Barely touched.
Even the one in the shade is growing more but I suspect that is more of a case of 'where'd my sunshine go?' Radishes, lettuce, cilantro, onions and those carrots all doing much better with more sun now. If the cauliflowers fail no big deal, that means I can start my peppers and tomatoes sooner. Which reminds me, apparently in the big storm, the black container that had the last three seed start pellets blew away. Either that or I don't remember putting another container on top of them, will have to check that stack of containers.
Wild plants doing what they can. Bolting up with the warmer weather despite there being a frost warning tonight and tomorrow. Sad that thistle only has the little yellow flower and not a big purple one.
Pea pods before the end of the month for sure. Those two flowers are going to be ready to open in a day and with the bees buzzing in the Jade plant, pollinators will be happening if needed.
Playing with my macro lens on the phone to try and catch the bees in action and see how good it can catch the actual flowers. Problem is it says to get within 3-5 cm of the subject. Get that close to a bee and it will feel threatened and fly off or just ignore everything but getting more nectar.
That is a smaller lettuce leaf I pulled off and it has been chewed by pill bugs, he potatoes are still being attacked by slugs and bugs. Almost clipped off some of the lettuce leaves but want to try and keep them going long enough to get a reasonable head at least.
Also toyed with the idea of pulling one of the potatoes, especially the one with alternaria. One lone pill bug found on one of the pomelo pieces. Still need to do a trap for them tonight. Piece of wheat bread and maybe some yeast in a shallow lid or something for them to climb into.
Yesterday on the way home from a short trip to the store, half rainbow is better than none!
